René BrettThe driving catalyst and visionary of Team Viridian, René founded the practice that has evolved into Viridian Consulting to offer her clients quality design and unstinting personal service. She is determined to grow Viridian into the best Landscape Architectural practice in the Western Cape by building her team upon a simple principle of nature: that innovative excellence emerges from the midst of diversity.
René‘s particular forte is creating inspired and functional design that strikes a balance between the built and natural environments. Changes to the landscape should be aesthetic, practical and affordable through disciplined focus on available resources and intelligent planning.
Before setting up on her own in June 2004, René cut her teeth on a wide range of projects in the fields of urban planning, urban design, environmental planning, and landscape architecture. She holds a degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Pretoria (1996), a Master of City Planning and Urban Design from University of Cape Town (2000), and cultivated her professional experience at the highly-respected and multi-disciplinary firms of Chittenden Nicks de Villiers and Dennis Moss Partnership. René is a Registered Town and Regional Planner in Training, a Registered Landscape Architect with the South African Council for the Landscape Architectural Profession (SACLAP), and a member of the Institute of Landscape Architects of South Africa (ILASA).
